Biography

Antonio Romoleroux was born in Quito, Ecuador, in 1968. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the University of the Arts in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and his Bachelor’s degree in Plastic Arts from the College of Arts at the Central University of Ecuador.

Since his first exhibition in 1987, Romoleroux’s work has been featured in 41 solo and 200 group exhibitions at major galleries and institutions in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Recent exhibitions include: “The Message of the Models,” at Kuntraum Artescena, Leipzig, Germany, in 2021; “Antonio Romoleroux, Anthology,” at the PUCE Cultural Center, Quito, in 2018; “Dass Bewusste Ich,” at the Ecuadorian Embassy in Berlin, Germany, in 2015; “Antonio Romoleroux,” Queens Museum, New York, in 2010.

Antonio Romoleroux has received 24 awards and distinctions in recognition of his cultural achievements. He notably received: Overall Rank 1, International Art Contest, Talentila Foundation, in Hisar, India, in 2024; the Premiazione alla Carriera, Associazione Culturale Narda Martinez Pittrice, in Varese, Italy, in 2023; the Recognition of Artistic Lifetime Achievement from the Consulate of Ecuador in Los Angeles, California, in 2021; he was awarded the Doctor Vicente Rocafuerte Decoration for Cultural Merit, National Assembly of Ecuador, in 2020; he received the Recognition of Artistic Lifetime Achievement from the Ministry of Culture and Heritage of Ecuador in 2019 and the Kunstraum Artescena in Leipzig, Germany, in 2018; and he won the Mariano Aguilera First Prize in painting in 1995; First Prize in Painting at the First National Youth Art Exhibition in 1991; and Second Prize in the 15th National Engraving Competition of the Municipality of Quito in 1988.

Romoleroux has been a visual arts teacher since 1994, and in 2024 he founded the Academia Artes Quito.

In 2021, she founded the International Resilience Center, which provides free psychological and psychiatric care.
